Sustainable Leadership for Service Professionals Program Summary
In the Public Sector, individuals frequently find themselves in leadership roles without the necessary experience or skills for the responsibilities which lie ahead. Whether through election, appointment or hiring, those who enter government or other public agencies may have come from altogether different backgrounds that may not have afforded them the opportunity to learn the skills required to be a successful leader. While leadership skills are often undervalued in loosely coupled organizations, like government, they are essential to create the collaborative climate required to be successful. |
 |
The purpose of this curriculum is to transfer the necessary knowledge and skills to people in positions of leadership which will contribute to their individual success and therefore, ensure a higher level of service to all of the stakeholders who benefit from their organizations. And, of course, strong leadership in our public organizations will save tax payer money through better decision making, more efficient processes, and fewer false starts.
This curriculum is based upon a leadership program at a major university with a proven success record. It is grounded in the social science research that has tested the viability of the concepts. One must understand the development of leadership theory and the results of social scientists’ research in this area, and then to move beyond theory into practical application, in order to have an impact. |
This consultative curriculum is entitled “Sustainable Leadership for Service Professionals: The Verbs of Leadership.” It is focused on hosting individuals and groups through a learning experience in the practical skills and tactics that they need to be successful leaders. It is based on the lessons learned through the research and over 130 years of combined experience by a number of practitioners. The topics covered include:
- Leadership Approaches
- Creating a Vision
- Creating a Plan (Realizing the Vision)
- Procedures for Group Decision Making
- People Management
- Problem Resolution
We have created a three day course for public sector professionals that can be tailored to the appropriate audience with the use of Subject Matter Experts, in addition to our teaching staff.
